Description

The history

Founded in 1952 by Donald Mitchell Healey, the sports car manufacturer experienced many ups and downs during its 17-year existence. Thanks to great sports car successes, over 60,000 of the Big Healeys were produced. Stricter emission standards from the USA and BMC's strategic alignment with Triumph meant the end of the unforgotten sports car brand in 1968, after which it only produced the small Sprite.

After the successful 4-cylinder models BN1 and BN2, the first 6-cylinder Healey was introduced in 1956, the BN4 100six. With its torque and 6-cylinder acoustics, it was the successful sequel and the answer to the booming roadster market at the time.

This example was produced on August 15, 1957 and delivered to Seattle in the USA. In the spring of 2011, the Healey was acquired by a specialist company in Germany, an expert opinion was drawn up and it was extensively restored. Goodtimer acquired this Healey from the German specialist dealership and sold it to a Swiss enthusiast in 2015, freshly veteran-approved.

Bodywork and paintwork

The bodywork is flawless, the gaps are exceptionally good for this year of construction. The paintwork was renewed in 2012 and still has a remarkable deep shine today. The exceptionally good care is evident in the paintwork, which is freshly sealed.

Interior

The genuine leather interior has been renewed, as has the carpeting. The cockpit tarpaulin was elaborately handcrafted in Switzerland and the new fabric soft top was also renewed and precisely fitted.

Engine and mechanics

The entire mechanical system has been continuously maintained, serviced and repaired by professional companies. All maintenance receipts since 2012 are available and document the regular maintenance.

The engine was completely overhauled in 2011/2012. The measured values, such as compression and exhaust gases, are good, the connecting rod bearings have play, which will need to be rectified in a few years by means of an overhaul. A performance test report is available.

Chassis

The brakes and chassis were overhauled for the last veteran's test and show new values on the test bench.

Driving experience

The BN4 was the first 6-cylinder from Austin Healey, which shines with very good torque and great acoustics. But driving a Healey is also work, which is good for your fitness. You literally have to experience the unique driving experience of a Healey.

Recommendation

This Healey is doubly enjoyable because its overall condition is remarkably good and it has the charisma of a freshly restored example. Apart from a weakness in the connecting rod bearings in the engine, this Healey is immaculate, has been meticulously maintained and is very well documented.
