History

In 1953, racing driver Donald Healey started production of his own sports roadster with car manufacturer Austin. Intended for the race track but also suitable for the road, the result was a fantastically uncompromising sports car that cost just over half the price of a Jaguar XK120 at the time. 

A total of 72,000 Austin Healeys were built between 1953 and 1968, becoming increasingly comfortable over the years. Today, the Austin Healey is one of the most popular classic sports cars with British charm. A Healey is welcome everywhere, can also be used well on long journeys and has an excellent spare parts supply.  

This genuine Healey 100 is one of the last produced from Donald Healey's first sports car series and is Heritage Certified. From 2016 to 2017, the vehicle was extensively restored and technically optimized with Denis Welsh components and 4-speed transmission with overdrive.

Bodywork and paintwork       

All bodywork elements are undamaged and fit perfectly. The paintwork has very little patina and a deep shine. The professional conversion with Brooklands windows and adaptations in the pedals, steering wheel and gearshift are geared towards sport.

Interior                 

Just like the bodywork, the interior presents itself undamaged and equipped with solid leather. The carpets and trim are well maintained.

Engine and mechanics       

The mechanical condition is brilliant. Only 4,000 km have been driven since the engine, gearbox, rear axle, steering and brakes were completely overhauled. The vehicle is suitable for long distances and is very reliable.

Chassis                

The chassis was also part of the restoration in 2017 and was replaced along with the wire wheels.    

Driving experience              

An Austin Healey is a fantastic sports car of the old guard per se. You feel every bump and turn in immediately. The road holding is remarkable and the brakes are also powerful. This example with the optional Brooklands disks conveys a pure racing feeling. The original, lowerable windshield as well as the side windows and a new soft top are part of the equipment of this Healey.

Recommendation              

The Healey 100 in British racing green in racing trim is the right choice for every classic motorsport enthusiast. This example impresses with its excellent condition and outstanding technology. For buyers from the EU, this Healey is a real bargain, not least because there is no tax to pay. Buyers from Switzerland have to reckon with 14% import costs and approx. CHF 1,600 MFK costs.
