The history
The Fiat 500, born in the summer of 1957, was produced over 3.7 million times in its career. The successful model, which followed the equally popular Topolino (built from 1936 to 1955), stopped production in five series (Nuova, D, F, L, R) in 1975.
This lovingly restored Fiat of the Nuova D type was completely dismantled and rebuilt by a Cinquecento specialist. Even if the restoration costs exceed the sales value of a Nuova, it was well worth bringing this gem back to life. Another 8,000 francs were invested in the technology for the fresh veteran's inspection in December 2023, which means that this Fiat 500 will be a reliable friend for the next 6 years.
A lot of love has been put into this example, which is reflected in beautiful details such as the high-quality seat covers, additional chrome applications, an original Blaupunkt radio from the 1960s or the pretty picnic case with original FIAT emblem.
Bodywork and paintwork
The bodywork was very generously rebuilt and a very good paint quality was achieved. The paintwork still looks as good as new today. Only very few stress openings can be seen at the body joints.
Interior
The entire interior is new and has high-quality stitching in an absolutely fantastic choice of colors. The frames and fittings have also been restored. The charm of the interior in combination with the convertible top of the same color made of high-quality Sonnenland fabric is unbeatable.
Engine and mechanics
The half-liter engine was overhauled an unknown time ago and underwent a new refit at Goodtimer. The engine was sealed, wearing parts replaced, carburetor renewed and much more.
Chassis
The entire chassis and brakes are part of the restoration and are in perfect and tested condition. The brake system and wheels were replaced in 2017.
Driving experience
Every Cinquecento is an experience, whether with 14 or 20 hp. The Nuova models have the greater fresh air advantage, especially for the rear passengers, as the roof can be rolled up to below the rear window. As 120km/h is not an issue for the Fiat 500, there is plenty of time to enjoy the scenery and wink back at the many waving road users and pedestrians. Even at Goodtimer, where you can often find top-class classics, you succumb to the charm of the Italian dwarf every time.
Recommendation
Genuine Nuova with the so-called “suicide doors” are very rare and therefore sought after. This example not only presents itself in a lovely color combination, it has also been professionally restored in every detail with great effort.
In our opinion, it is a very collectable example that we deliberately classify as an exclusive and high-quality classic. A welcome guest at every classic car event.
